Virginia High School - Virginia, MN
Seniors Mitch Sella and Sarah Kohlhase are the recent recipients of the The Triple “A” Award, and award created in 1988 to recognize students who excel in academics, athletics and the arts.
In the academics arena, Sella wrote that he has challenged himself by taking as many Advanced, Honors and Concurrent Enrollment classes he could.
Sella has also played football since he was a freshman, hockey the last three years and track and field since seventh grade.
He was especially proud to say he has been a five-time captain in sports and president of the Student Council and Urban Edge.
Teacher and Alpine ski coach Greg Foster highly recommended Kohlhase for the award after having her as a student the last six years. He has also coached her on the Virginia Area Alpine Ski Team, of which she is currently the team captain.
“In every class Sarah’s performance has been top in the class. Her peak performance is not only measured in her superior academic peroformance, but also her ability to lead the class in maintaining a rigorous academic atmosphere,’’ Foster wrote in his letter of recommendation.
